Clark County Bargaining Update

Clark County Bargaining Update

They Say Things Are Getting Better… But They Still Want Drastic Cuts!

Thursday July 7, our Bargaining Team met with management for our first bargaining session. Our Bargaining Team started the negotiations with a thorough presentation to remind the County of the many sacrifices we have made to help the County through the economic crisis. We explained to them the hard work we did on behalf of the County in Carson City and how it protected the County and restored much needed revenue. Individual members of the Bargaining Team spoke passionately about the impact of wage reductions, reduction of services due to a deeply strained workforce, and the negative effects that cutbacks in programs have had on the most vulnerable in our communities.

The County acknowledged our contributions, saying in their financial presentation that they have made it through the most difficult times with our help. They said, “We are doing better, but we’re not out of the woods yet.” To help themselves out of the woods they made three proposals:

  • Take Away a Holiday, (Article 22)
  • Attack Longevity, (Article 32) and
  • Freeze Wages! (Article 21)

Our Proposals:

As you know, this is full-contract bargaining. Our Bargaining Team presented the County with two proposals and both sides will continue to present proposals and counter-proposals going forward.

Intent: Add language emphasizing the need to treat each other with respect and dignity (Article 2)
Recognition: Strengthen our right-to-bargain language, more time for new employee orientation, add part-time employees to bargaining unit (Article 3)

Let’s get the word out to every member today and let the County know we oppose more cuts!
