UHS Desert Springs & Valley Hospitals Ratify Contract!
In these trying economic times, UHS Desert Springs and Valley Hospitals were able to successfully and quickly negotiate a contract that will help provide us with peace of mind. With this contract, our futures are secure.
Given the current economic climate, the 2009 SEIU UHS Bargaining Team voted to narrow the issues discussed in negotiations. As many of us remember, 2006 negotiations dragged on for months and months and took a tremendous toll on all of us.
This year, negotiations were really different. After two short sessions and with our priorities clear, we were able to reach a tentative agreement. Also, by agreeing to a four year contract, we can continue to grow our
union while the economy recovers.
Based on feedback from the bargaining surveys, the 2009 UHS Bargaining Team decided our top priorities for negotiations were 1) Maintain our achievements from the last contract and prevent any takeaways, 2) Improve wages and 3) Make improvements in staffing.
Contract Highlights:
- Wages: 3%, 3%, 3.5%, 3.5%, plus step increases.
- Staffing Committee: Creation of a staffing acuity subcommittee specifically tasked with reviewing and discussing issues related to hospital practices and guidelines.
- Four year contract to help weather through the uncertain economic future.
- No takeaways!
HUGE Congratulations!
