Leroy,
We
have received reports that employees were called into a meeting this
morning and told that the Maternal/Child unit at the Delima campus was
being shut down May 1, 2010. Employees asked for Union representation.
In response they were asked "How many in the room are Union members?"
When the hands were all raised, they were then told to look around,
that was their representation. This is VERY disturbing.
I am
coming to you for answers on this issue. To my knowledge, no one at the
Union has received any notice of an impending closure. Is this indeed
true? If so, we are confident that we will hear from you shortly on
ways to have the least possible impact on employees and Hospital
operations. Our representative Debbie Miller as well as our elected
leadership, Cherie Mancini and Gary Stewart, stand ready to work with
Human Resources to ensure the CBA is upheld and the employees are
counseled in this process.
We are very concerned about any
possible reduction in force, as well as services to the community.
However, I would also have to say that this is a terrible way to
communicate with the employees. We are hopeful you will work with us to
rectify this problem immediately.
Thank you.
