Las Vegas EMTs & Paramedics Ratify Contract
End Months of Strained Negotiations
Las Vegas — After nearly six months of troubled negotiations, the EMTs and Paramedics of American Medical Response in Las Vegas have voted to ratify a new three-year contract.
Tensions between the EMS professionals and AMR had threatened to boil over into a strike at least once during negotiations. Recently, however, both the union and the company committed themselves to creating a sustainable working relationship.
“We both dedicated ourselves to putting the needs of the community first, and that meant finding a way to work together productively in the long term,” said Chris Cloen, Chief Negotiator for SEIU Local 1107. “It took a lot of work on everybody’s part, but now we have a respectable agreement.”
“It was very important to this community to prevent a strike,” Clark County Commissioner Chairman Rory Reid said. “This agreement ensures we retain those knowledgeable medical professionals who know our local streets and can maintain good response times. I want to personally thank both sides for resolving their differences for the benefit of the community.”
The agreement calls for pay raises over the three-year life of the contract and stronger protections for workers in areas such as scheduling, hold-overs, and discipline.
