SEIU Local 1107’s Asian Pacific Islander (API) Caucus kicked off its first-ever Meet & Greet this month and the energy in the room was undeniable. From the start, the event felt like a celebration of solidarity. Members had the chance to:
It was more than just a meeting — it was a chance to build community bonds and set the tone for future action. The caucus was joined by incredible allies and partners, including Assemblymember Erica Mosca, Assemblymember Duy Nguyen, Assemblymember Rochelle Nguyen, Assemblymember Venise Karris, Asian Community Development Council (ACDCNV), Filipino American Democrats, and Bayanihan Brew.
The evening also included a powerful moment of recognition. SEIU 1107 and the API Caucus congratulated Erika Watanabe, long-time union leader and API Caucus Chair, for over 20 years of service to the labor movement. Erika’s leadership has been a cornerstone of building member power, fighting for justice, and uplifting AAPI voices inside and outside the union.
The API Caucus is just getting started. From cultural events to advocacy campaigns, members are committed to creating spaces where AAPI workers feel seen, heard, and empowered. As SEIU 1107 continues to grow, the API Caucus will play a vital role in making sure that inclusivity, equity, and solidarity are at the center of everything we do.
