Press Release

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1107, Nevada’s largest union representing more than 20,000 healthcare and public service workers, today announced its endorsement of Miguel Davila Uzcategui for the Nevada State Assembly District 15. Uzcategui, a longtime Las Vegas resident and public service worker at the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada, is a committed SEIU member with a strong record of speaking up for working families.
“Miguel is a fighter, plain and simple,” said Michelle Maese, President of SEIU Local 1107. “He doesn’t back down when the stakes are high, and he’s not afraid to stand up for working Nevadans. We need leaders like Miguel in Carson City—leaders who will fight for fair wages, safe workplaces, and strong public services every single day. He’s the champion our members deserve.”
Sam Shaw, Executive Director of SEIU Local 1107, highlighted Uzcategui’s deep roots in the community. “Miguel knows what it’s like to live and work in Nevada and to still worry about the rising cost of living,” Shaw said. “He’s a real public servant—someone who wants to make life better for his neighbors. That’s the kind of representative our members will support.”
SEIU 1107 Political Chair Debbie Springer, a longtime union activist, praised Uzcategui’s dedication. “Miguel has always been the person people go to when they need help or need someone to stand with them,” Springer said. “He’s patient, he’s thoughtful, and he listens. Our members trust him—and that says everything. I’m proud we’re backing him.”
Uzcategui said he is running to make sure working families have a voice in the decisions that affect their everyday lives. “I’ve been a public service worker for a decade, and I’ve seen the struggles our community faces,” said Uzcategui. “People are working harder than ever and are still falling behind. I’m running because it shouldn’t be this hard for working families to afford to live in the place we love. I want to fight for the folks who keep Nevada running—because we deserve leaders who stand with us and stand up for us.”
